Rendering with Light Joon Ahn
Have you ever struggled to render something without a reference ? Even with a reference, do you fully understand what’s going on with the lighting, values and materials ?
This class will guide you to the core of light and material logics, the math behind rendering. In the 5 weeks you will learn,
- Fundamental light logics and how to calculate values
- How matte & reflective material works
- Application on various subject matters ( prop, character, architecture etc.)
- Painting techniques, brushes, details
This course is all about understanding to the core of what we are trying to depict. You will enjoy the process of understanding and applying, and will see much more accurate results in the end.

Instructor: Joon Ahn, Concept artist & Instructor
Joon is a concept artist/ illustrator in the entertainment industry. His career includes Lucas Arts, Disney, Riot games and currently at Apple. With his range of skills to cover diverse subject matters, worldbuilding has been his major role on game developments such as League of Legends and the popular animated series on Netflix, Arcane. Joon also has been teaching at Brainstorm school since 2016, including classes such as ENT2, Fantasy Landscape, Unified Design Process, Render With Light and Mentorship program.
Suggested Materials: Photoshop CS6 or higher, Tablet or Cintique
Other requirements: Cable speed internet (30 mb or higher)
Flash Structure: 5 Weeks, 2 hours per week. Course structured to deliver focused information and techniques. Each week will be live demonstrations and Lecture. There is no feedback offered in this course.
