Gue Yang is a character concept artist who has been working in the video game industry for the last 10 years. He strives to share his methods and understanding to future artists who are serious about getting better.

Designing believable characters is one of the most difficult and competitive tasks in the entertainment industry. The construction and designing of characters involve thorough research to communication and sell a direction along with a strong fundamental skillset of tools.

Whether the aesthetic is stylized or photoreal, this Mentorship's goal is to break it down for you through the following concentrations: Fundamentals (For beginners wanting to form a strong understanding of the figure.

Or advance students who wants to perfect their skills): -This course's goal is to sharpen our knowledge of the figure with a concentration on character design aesthetic of choice. Some of the practices here involve: -Observation and breakdown of the figure through life/reference - Basic shape design of the human anatomy -Perspective and posing of characters -Clothing design. -Lighting -Form rendering –

Additional techniques used in your painting/drawing Character Portfolio for Game/Film Industry (For those that are searching for jobs or wanting a personal project): -This concertation is more for the students who are confident in their fundamentals and want to design a portfolio for their specific industry.

Towards the end, students should expect to have a clear idea of the character concept pipeline and also a body of work that sums up a character concept portfolio capable of presenting to studios.

Additional assignments will be assigning if there is any lacking in fundamental aspects. Unlike a regular character design classes, Gue will guide you step by step through every method of the technique used, from figure breakdown to thumbnailing, all the way to color finish so you won’t miss a single step.

Mentorship program meets once a week.  Materials will be streamed & recorded. Meetings will be hosted via gotomeeting.com platform. Links will be posted and emailed on the day of meeting.
