SDCD: Story Driven Character Design
This class will focus on character design for video games through the lens of a storyteller. As the creator of your own characters, you'll have the opportunity not only to design them, but to share their unique stories through those designs. Some of the topics covered will focus on shape language, designing from a silhouette, designing with line, costume design, creating orthographic turns, rendering details, and more.
Focus: Becoming familiar with character design process
Recommended education experience: CH-0, FIG1, AD1, DC1
Suggested Materials: Pens, pencils, sketchbook, loose paper, markers, digital camera, laptop and photoshop (any version)

Location: All SUMMER 2024 Term courses will be held online. All material, course structure and syllabus will remain the same. Class will meet in an online meeting room hosted by Brainstorm School.
Requirements: Computer with Photoshop and high speed internet. Mic (highly recommended) and camera (optional)

Instructor: Gary Laib, Concept artist & Instructor
Gary Laib is a concept artist, illustrator, and author living in the Bay Area. His career spans nearly twenty years designing and illustrating for numerous companies such as NCSoft, Cryptic Studios, Blizzard, Wizards of The Coast, Ubisoft, and more. He is also a children's book illustrator and author and illustrator of a new young adult series, "Roon & The White Raven."
